KEROGREEN Winter School " Future directions in research on Power-to-X for sustainable chemicals & fuels", 10-11.02.2022, online

On 10-11 February 2022, KEROGREEN together with the research projects E-Fuel and BECCU and the EERA Joint Programme Energy Storage (EERA JPES), organized a virtual winter school including a PhD day of the EERA JPES SP2, the Subprogram 2 on Energy Storage in Chemicals.

With around 75 participants from 9 different countries, and in total 27 oral contributions the event was a real success and received a lot of positive feedbacks.

The winter school provided the latest developments on the Power-to-X related technologies and their future directions. Especially concepts aiming at ensuring sustainability have been pointed out.

Following topics have been addressed:

  • CO2 capture
  • Electrolysis
  • Co-Electrolysis
  • Plasmolysis
  • Chemical synthesis
  • Fuel synthesis
  • System integration
  • System, process, reactor and kinetic modelling

Beside key note presentations and overview presentations of involved research projects, the winter school gave the opportunity to young researchers to present their research activities and results in either short talks or posters. KIT and VTT presented some of their labs and research topics in virtual visits. The winter school also included a special session dedicated to presentations from doctoral students from the EERA JPES network (EERA PhD day).

The EERA PhD day was offering PhD students from the EERA JPES SP2 the opportunity to present their PhD project and to receive feedback from other PhD students as well as from senior scientists from the same research environment. In the frame of this session, a dedicated scientific board consisting of Esperanza Ruiz Martínez (CIEMAT), Peter Holtappels (DTU), Emil Drazevic (Aarhus University) and Adelbert Goede (DIFFER) has been evaluating the PhD presentations. The competition between the four PhD students participating in the contest was really hard. The best contribution award of the EERA PhD day has finally been attributed to Tabea Jasmin Stadler (KIT-IMVT) for her presentation entitled „Syngas Production in the KEROGREEN Process Chain: Development of a compact Sorption Enhanced Water Gas Shift Reactor”.
